How Microtechnology Is Changing the Part-time Hiring Process

How Microtechnology Is Changing the Part-time Hiring Process

Long gone are the days when you posted an advertisement for a job opening in the front window of your business. Today, finding the right fit for a part-time job opening requires meeting job seekers where they are—online.

This means that job posting technology needs to overlap with the job seekers’ tech, right? So, why are there still so many help-wanted signs and banners near roads and intersections?

I feel the answer is that the Big Job Boards haven’t solved the problem for businesses, since they’re more concerned with maintaining their monopoly over you. So put down the signs—and stop relying on those old-school job boards that pick your marketing budget clean. Turn to a revolutionary new part-time hiring process.

With HipHire, we have the technology designed to keep you out of job posting “jail” and, instead, keep you passing GO into the intersection of a fresh new audience.

Micro Job Posting Technology’s Impact on the Part-time Hiring Process

We can all agree that mobile has become the new internet, a change that didn’t happen overnight. Job postings on those big job boards aren’t as attractive to job seekers as they used to be. Technology is shifting quickly to match job seeker preferences that are far less reliant on job boards, which haven’t fully optimized to the mobile-friendly needs of part-time job seekers.

Micro job posting technology, like HipHire, offers a new solution to strategically target your job posting to exactly the right people looking for the type of positions you’re offering.

Many businesses fall into the category of hiring full-time, part-time, and seasonal people. However, the old-school job boards are not the solution, since they force everyone through the same doorway.

You need a technology that specializes in only part-time jobs like HipHire does. We’ve tailored our technology to specifically address the symptoms of hiring for these types of positions.

From our mobile app technology to our website interface, everything we do revolves around the world of part-time hiring. Because we’re specialists, there is a little extra effort required since you’ll need to step away from the platforms that are managing your full-time or career hiring. That’s not our focus!

The Part-time Hiring Process Intersection

“Almost always, great new ideas don’t emerge from within a single person or function, but at the intersection of functions or people that have never met before.”—Clayton Christensen

You back out of the driveway and push the remote control to close the garage door. You have your hot coffee sitting in the console of your car while you’re sitting at an intersection you cross every day between home and work. The light is red, so perhaps you’re checking your email or Facebook account, but you look up for a minute. Is every car at that intersection in the same lane directly behind you turning right? Most likely not! The only instance I can think of where everybody’s heading the same direction toward the same goal would be a NASCAR race.

Think about when you post your part-time jobs on those old-school job boards and hit send. What are the chances your part-time job post is going to intersect with a person looking for that opportunity?

These one-size-fits-all job boards are more of a congested freeway waiting for you to pay the toll. HipHire believes in challenging businesses to think differently when hiring by putting you on the right highway, drastically increasing the likelihood your part-time job will intersect with people looking to collide with you for good.

Look out the window: Are you on the right highway because it’s easy? Or are you going the wrong direction?

A Fresh Audience

I speak with hundreds of businesses a month, and eventually, the conversation steers toward the type of job board they’re using. “Look, you’ll need to speak with our corporate office because we’re only allowed to use job posting systems approved by our home office.”

Yet many part-time hiring processes are still suffering from the same problem. What’s that? The use of big job boards! What if you chose another road for the sake of meeting new people? Where would you go, and who would you ask?

The easy answer is HipHire. With our tools, we put you in front of a new audience that is also tired of the status quo. Job seekers who use our platform clearly understand exactly what we do and are only interested in connecting with like-minded businesses.

It’s a fresh audience seeking change, looking for businesses that also believe in approaching part-time hiring differently.

The time for posting job openings in the front window of your business is long gone. Should you be considering micro job posting technology that strategically targets the exact people your job needs?

Doing so increases the chances you intentionally cross with a fresh audience. Is it time to get off the highway or to turn right and head down the right road of opportunity by simply using HipHire?

Why HipHire Believes an App Can Help Your Business Fill Part-time Jobs Faster

Why HipHire Believes an App Can Help Your Business Fill Part-time Jobs Faster

HipHire believes in challenging businesses to think differently when hiring. The way we challenge them is by delivering a simple service that streamlines the hiring process for part-time jobs.

Want to hire your fans? The web and app worlds are colliding fast—and so are the ways job seekers find and learn about employment. Technology is the disruptor that’s magnifying their inability to discover the right opportunities—or is it?

Ever had that anxious uncertainty about where to turn when looking to hire the right part-time people? Our “app for that” is a tool meant to relax that uneasy feeling by putting your job in the hands of the right job seekers. We do this by helping job seekers concentrate on their needs, then matching those needs with the best job. Prioritizing their interests, in turn, helps those hiring fill their openings faster with employees who are fans of their business!

Why We Believe There’s an App for That When It Comes to Part-time Jobs

Apple launched the iPhone in 2007, followed by the App store in 2008, which jump-started the app revolution. According to CNN Money in February 2014, mobile apps had overtaken PC internet usage. It only took seven years for apps to take over how we use the web, because these apps are designed to do just one thing, whether it’s to provide us with music, games or fitness tips. We no longer have to open a browser and search for what we need—we now have an app for that!

Apps are tools that reduce friction, connecting us to the internet seamlessly at the push of a button. However, hiring is still widely performed in a web browser on the hiring manager’s desk. HipHire helps businesses bridge the app divide by combining your web world with the job seeker’s mobile app world.

Because we have an app, we’re able to streamline the hiring process for businesses in a way that traditional, old-school job boards cannot. You know, the ones that still offer the post-and-replace solution that increases your administrative and marketing costs and makes more work for your overworked staff!

[callout type=”left” title=”A Better Way of Filling Your Part-time Jobs” message=”HipHire easily connects you with quality people for your part-time job openings.” button_text=”Get started” button_icon=”thumbs-up” href=””]

Why Prioritize Your Needs in a Job Seeker-only App?

The question that I’m often asked as the founder of HipHire is why just part-time jobs? And my answer is: focus! Steve Jobs said it best, “People think focus means saying yes to the thing you’ve got to focus on. But that’s not what it means at all. It means saying no to the hundred other good ideas that there are.”

Years ago, I was a partner in a sporting goods company. In the early days, we sold everything from tube socks to baseball bats. Over time, we matured and realized how difficult it was to be good at everything. We decided to only focus on one type of sport played by both men and women. That allowed us to hire fans, who were passionate about their jobs because they loved the product we sold. However, that epiphany didn’t come naturally.

Think of the same thing when you’re hiring people—how can they be good at everything? Michael Jordan, we know, was good at basketball, but I assume, stunk at doing his taxes. OK, sure, he retained accountants, who were good at one thing: accounting!

It’s common for mobile tools designed for businesses and consumers to do everything. We chose to take an unconventional approach by eliminating business functionality from the mobile platform. Focusing the app on only job seekers helps them identify the right part-time jobs, resulting in you hiring the best employees!

Want to Hire Fans to Fill Your Part-time Jobs?

Let me ask you: Who’s your favorite sports team? Why are you so loyal to that team? Teams hire brilliant sports marketers to help establish strong brands that build fan loyalty and, therefore, fans are often a key factor in determining the success of a sports club.

So we borrowed that concept of loyal fans to help businesses hire fans. Our solution helps companies make increasingly better hiring decisions by presenting them with the part-time job seekers who are the most interested. You see: With the HipHire app, job seekers who visit a job posting frequently are prioritized over those who only visit once. This is because we know businesses want to hire their fans.

Sure, one of the most common ways this is handled today is that we ask our best employees to refer their friends. However, best friends often don’t always equal the right hires. Once the luster of working for the new team wears off, that best friend quits, sometimes followed by the friend—and now you’ve lost two employees. Fans love their team in good times and bad, which is why we want to help you find fans who love your business.

Why should you care if there’s an app for that? Because we believe in challenging businesses to think differently when hiring. To be the best at one thing—part-time hiring—while helping customers continue to navigate this transition of technology, reducing anxieties by placing the right part-time job seekers on your desktop through our technology, allowing you to hire your fans!

How to Define Your Goals in Your Part-time Job Search

How to Define Your Goals in Your Part-time Job Search

I’d like to share with you one of my favorite morning rituals – It’s journaling. It’s the first thing I do when I wake up. Write my goals for the day, getting them out of my head and down on paper.

Personally, I want to make a conscious effort to move the needle, daily, by getting these ideas out, through the process of writing.

Why paper? If you’re like me, when I open my computer or phone I am immediately inundated with other message notifications. Within seconds I’ve spiraled down the distraction rabbit hole, which is why low-tech journaling works for me.

I use two journaling systems. One is the five-minute journal by UJ Ramdas and the second type is your basic college journal book that you can purchase from Wal-Mart, Target, or whatever store you prefer.

[callout type=”left” title=”First, set your goals.” message=”Then let us help you find great part-time jobs that meet your ideal requirements!” button_text=”Get the App” button_icon=”thumbs-up” href=””]

Establishing the Habits of Happiness

The five-minute journal is simple. It starts by asking you, “What three things you’re grateful for” followed by three tasks you’d like to accomplish and then finally one affirmation. Typically at night, I’ll go back and review my achievements. The whole process reminds me of the main things I want to accomplish, my daily goals.

According to Ramdas, “In under 5 minutes a day, you begin to practice the habits of happiness that are now proven to improve your well-being through over 20 years of research.”

You’ve got to know your goals before you can reach them. So, starting the day knowing your goals is a powerful daily method to realizing self-worth by reaching that goal.

What Does This Have to Do With My Part-time Job Search?

The five-minute journal is such a simple yet enjoyable system. It enables me to achieve my personal and business goals and it has made me realize how useful it can be for people looking for a part-time job as well.  Part-time job seekers can use this system to improve their job search process and use intentional objectives to find the right job this time.

Ask yourself, what are three things you really want in your next part time job? Jot that down and then let’s use the S.M.A.R.T. method to ensure our goals are specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and timely.

What would the best part-time job look like?

Not sure what you want to improve? Try choosing from this list: wages, commute distance, shifts, hours, industry. Here are some examples:

  • I’d like to make between $12 to $14 an hour
  • Wish I drove less than 10 miles a day round-trip from home
  • Need to work less than 30 hours a week

[callout type=”left” title=”What does your ideal part-time job look like?” message=”Once you know, we can help you find it.” button_text=”Get the App” button_icon=”thumbs-up” href=””]

What would make each of these part-time job attributes ideal?

Next, think about what specific attributes of your ideal part-time job will allow you to do. These are things that are not possible in your current job situation. Here are a few more examples:

  • By earning more money I can work less and still pay down my school loans
  • Driving less than 10 miles per day saves me money on gas
  • Working less that 30 hours a week allows me to focus on my schoolwork while still meeting my financial obligations.

“Jobs To Be Done” Framework

If you’re a part-time job seeker, it’s important to ask yourself at this point why you want a new job. If you’re a business owner hiring a new part-time employee, this is a question you need to answer too. Often a good place to start is using the “jobs to be done” story framework.

Ask yourself: I want [personal or professional goal]. To accomplish this, I know I need [ideal part-time job attribute].

Ok, I know what you’re thinking. Nice framework, but how does that actually play out in your decision making process? Let’s take a look at an example:

I want to start paying down my student loans before I actually graduate. To accomplish this, I know I need to work no more than 30 hours per week so I still have time for school and have a part-time job that pays between $12-$14 per hour to free up money that I can use to pay down my loan.

With the jobs to be done system we essentially collected our set of goals into a single paragraph using the jobs to be done system. Right or wrong I often like using this tool because it helps get down to the bottom of the problem you’re trying to solve.

Earlier we talked about the things we want to change in our next part-time job but it is really more about something deeper we wanted to impact. When you’re thinking about why you want a new job and how it’s going to impact your lifestyle, you build your job search on a strong foundation.

How Does HipHire Help Me Reach My Goals?

HipHire is a system that connects job seekers with quality part-time jobs to interview. It’s no different than the other tools that I showed you above. However if you use our platform or the HipHire app with no intention you might find you end up going in the wrong direction again.

By beginning with the end in mind using goal systems like the few I showed you above, you can start improving your job results. When your part-time job search becomes more aligned with what you want to do differently this time around, these slight tweaks can help you get to the root of the change you’re seeking to make.

With the HipHire filter system you can take those ideal part-time job attributes identified earlier and select them within our system to reveal only jobs that meet your goals.

Ultimately HipHire solves your problem by helping you identify the things you’re looking to change in your next part-time job and presenting you with job opportunities that specifically meet those needs.

Have You Lost That Lovin’ Feeling With Your Part-time Job?

Have You Lost That Lovin’ Feeling With Your Part-time Job?

Do you remember that 80s movie, “Top Gun,” where Maverick and Goose serenaded Charlie with their rendition of “You’ve Lost That Lovin’ Feelin’”? OK, maybe you don’t. However, if you do, ask yourself: Have I started hearing that song in my head when I walk into my part-time job some mornings?

Lost That Feeling in Your Part-time Job?

Let HipHire play matchmaker and serenade you with our fantastic Kansas City part-time jobs. To play Cupid, let’s start by making a list of the top five things missing in your current job.

Let’s assume you’ve got a job, but you’re looking to upgrade—to find something better. So I’d ask you,  “What is it you’re looking for?” Not the type of gig, but what concrete thing are you looking for that next job to fulfill?

Puzzled? Here’s an example: You wish for better hours or a short commute to work. I guess it’s a good a thing I limited you to just five, but it’s satisfying, I hope, to get that out of your head and written down. That way you don’t make the same mistake, right?

OK, here’s the fun part, what are five things you’d love to have in your next job? Would you love to work weekends? Love more money? (Who wouldn’t?!)

[callout type=”left” title=”Find a Part-time Job You’ll Love” message=”Let the HipHire app play matchmaker and find the job of your dreams.” button_text=”Get the App” button_icon=”thumbs-up” href=””]

How to Find That Lovin’ Feelin’ in Your Next Part-time Job

Now we have a better list to work from. Let’s start the matchmaking process. You don’t need to create an account or anything, but just drop in your zipcode and click, “Let’s Go.”

After you hit enter, check out our preferences tool labeled “Filters,” or as I call it, the “What If Wizard.” Adjust the filter based on your new list of job requirements.

“What if a part-time job existed where I worked Monday, Wednesday, Friday; it paid $15 hr; and I get 24 hrs a week?” Makes sense. Does a job exist on our platform that fits the new things you’re looking for?

If yes, awesome! Sign up. If not, then let me know by emailing I want to know what we’re doing wrong!

(Note: At the time of this writing HipHire is only in Kansas City, so if you happen to come across this article and we’re not in your city yet, try this zip code: 64108.)

Mobile App—You can also try the same test on our app. Obviously, you’ll need to download it, but before you set up a profile, you can still enter your zipcode and see the results. (Again, if not in KC, try 64108.)

The “Preferences” tool (or “What If Wizard” tool) can be tuned to your new and very specific needs and can begin matching you with businesses that are a fit.

Just so you know: We use the good, better, best method to show you how well you match up with jobs. We have Low, Medium, and High Match represented by a color bar above each job. A high match is green, medium match is yellow, and low match is red.

  • The mobile app is for job seekers only.
  • We match you based on your needs.
  • We offer both in-app and email communication—your choice.
  • You control who you connect & interview with.
  • Your profile is private.
  • The app is free.

I Feel the Need…the Need for Speed!

HipHire’s new mobile app’s need for speed is visible as soon as you start using it. We even delayed the launch of the app another week so that we could make it even faster. Our team spent more than 2,500+ hours of development time to make it simple & fast, so you as the job seeker can find the right opportunity quickly. We didn’t bog anything down by including any business functionality—it’s all about what job seekers need only!

So, why should you care about speed?

Under the hood of the app, sure there are things you can’t see, but what you experience is a lighting-fast application. It was critical to us that your experience on our app is the most important thing. We accomplished this for you by eliminating useless features that bloat some apps and kill your engagement on them because the companies who build the app cared more about their own needs—not yours!

You and I have both felt the pain with bad apps that do too many things unrelated to your core purpose. Those that are poorly designed or show you ads (Which we will never do!) and have a lengthy registration process.

Fall in love with the right match after you’ve adjusted the preferences to meet your list of new needs. Now the easy part: After you and the business have both shown interest, once the company finalizes the match, you or the business can exchange emails to set up an interview.

The best part of the Top Gun movie was the chemistry between Maverick and Charlie. If you’re missing that chemistry in your part-time job, then HipHire can help restore that lovin’ feelin’.

Confidently interview with our part-time job interview checklist

Confidently interview with our part-time job interview checklist

Before a plane takes off, the pilot goes through an extensive checklist to ensure a safe flight.  Sure, the pilot has flown the plane hundreds — if not thousands — of times, but they still use a checklist to ensure a repeat of the same, safe experience as the last flight.

Imagine an airline where they do not review a list? Given a choice between an airline that follows the pre-flight checklist and one that does not, which one would you fly? Arriving safely at your next destination means going with the option that takes the time to prepare.

Interviewing for a part-time job is very similar. Getting through the interview unscathed means taking the time to prepare properly.

Once you’ve discovered your first part-time job using or our mobile application, you’re ready to interview. To help ensure you have a successful interview, we put together this checklist to help you over deliver on your next interview.

[callout type=”left” title=”Your Part-Time Job in Kansas City Awaits!” message=”Put your new interview prep skills to the test and start interviewing for great part-time jobs!” button_text=”Get the App” button_icon=”thumbs-up” href=””]

Here are a few key questions to get you started.

Part-Time Job Interview Prep: Google the company

Even though you’ve already read the short overview of the company on, it’s important to still take time to Google them because you know they’re doing the same thing to find out a little bit about you before the interview, too.

Find information about the company and learn what products or services they sell. Look for any recent news, both good and bad. Be ready to answer this question, “So, tell me what our company sells.” Not knowing the answer to the easiest questions will shorten your interview quickly.

Next, research the company on sites like where you can find reviews on the company based on employee feedback. Remember to take the information you read with a grain of salt because what you read might not always be true. If something shows up written by a previous employee, bring this issue up in the interview.

Part-Time Job Interview Prep: Lookup the person you are interviewing with on LinkedIn

Read this person’s full resume on LinkedIn, their career history, where they went to school. Do you have any first connections with individuals who know or have worked with this person?  Maybe prepare a question like, “So, I noticed you went to school at “blank” how do you think this school prepares you for the job you have today? Lastly, looking at someone’s LinkedIn profile will notify them, which is a good thing and hopefully keep them on their toes.

Research the person using a tool like to discover what this person likes. It also shows news about the company this person works for, aggregating data from a lot of other news sources and provides you another snapshot of the person with whom you’re interviewing.

Part-Time Job Interview Prep: Make a list of 3-5 questions

Be prepared to ask a few questions at the end of the interview. Write these down first after you review the resources listed here. This will help you keep an eye out when you hear this topic in the actual interview.

This is a great opportunity to show the interviewer you’re prepared. If you discover something in your research that is worrisome, make sure to work it into the conversation. Honestly, you are interviewing the company now, and part of this process is confirming that you want to work for them, not just that they want to hire you.

[callout type=”left” title=”Want more and better interviews?” message=”HipHire can help. We connect you with Kansas City companies who are looking to hire and match you based on your personal preferences.” button_text=”Give me the app” button_icon=”thumbs-up” href=””]

Part-Time Job Interview Prep:Google Their address

If you’re already using the HipHire app, you can skip this step because we included the business address on a Google map to make directions easy to find. And if you’re not yet using our app, download it here!

The goal is to show up 10-15 minutes before the interview, unless you’re told differently. If you are a hard sleeper, always get up an hour before you responsibilities begin. Be aware of how long it is going to take you to drive or commute. I like to use tools like the Waze App, where it can offer me a few options when it come to the route I take to the interview. Don’t be late, it’s not the traffic’s fault – it’s yours!

Part-Time Job Interview Prep: Be confident!

Awesome, now you know some information about the company, directions to get there and a list of questions to ask, be confident. You are most likely the most prepared person they have even seen. You are a high match, right? Overdress for the positions? This job is yours now just execute, confidence that HipHire helped set you up for success today.
